At Federici Dental, we want to spread the word about two important awareness topics this April: National Facial Protection Month & Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week (April 8th-15th). Because many sports begin in spring, it’s critical to bring your children and teens to our office and ask about mouth guards, to protect them from avoidable oral and facial injuries. We want you to enjoy your family (or your own) sport’s season without worry!

Also from April 8-15th, it’s National Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week, which means there are many free cancer screenings throughout the US. More than 70% of Americans have never been screened for these conditions! We highly recommend you get screened, and can find a local hospital, clinic or medical center offering a screening by visiting: https://www.headandneck.org/ohancaw/.

The Importance of Mouthguards

It’s important to know the differences between the various mouthguards that are out there. At many sporting goods stores, there are stock mouthguards that are “one size fits all” that don’t conform to the various bites, jaws and teeth. There are also “boil and bite” mouthguards that you can boil at home and conform to your mouth. However, these tend to be difficult to mold correctly and don’t offer the best protection possible.

A custom-made mouthguard, by Drs. Joe and Dave Federici, are comfortable and conform perfectly to you or your child’s unique mouth. They provide the highest level of protection and safety needed for all contact sports - and can also protect orthodontic appliances, such as braces, when worn. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask at your next appointment!

Facial Protection: An Issue We Hold Dear To Our Hearts

In a situation where accidental facial injuries occur, our team has immense experience in cosmetic dentistry. The woman in the upper left seat, who appeared on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, has received numerous compliments on the work we did on her teeth. We were able to fix her four upper teeth, and bond together the 3 lower ones for incredible results! We’ve included the link to the video below:
